Event Security in Hertfordshire
Hertfordshire sits just north of our home turf, and we work across the county every week — from intimate country-house weddings near St Albans to large outdoor concerts in the grounds of Knebworth House. It is an affluent commuter county with a deep wedding-venue market, a busy corporate sector along the M25 and A1(M), and a genuine claim to musical history, and our SIA-licensed event security is built around exactly that mix.
Because we are based on Hertfordshire’s doorstep in London, we reach Watford, St Albans, Hertford and the rest of the county quickly, and we know how its events actually run — the stately-home grounds, the market-town high streets, the licensing handled town-by-town and the commuter rail lines that shape how crowds arrive and leave.

Learn more →The Hertfordshire event landscape
Hertfordshire’s events landscape is unusually varied for a single county. Its wealth and its supply of historic houses, hotels and barns make it one of the strongest wedding markets in the Home Counties, while its position on London’s northern edge gives it a thriving corporate and conference economy around Watford, Hatfield and the business parks off the M25.
Then there is the county’s concert heritage. Knebworth House near Stevenage has staged some of the biggest outdoor shows in British music history — Oasis in 1996 and Liam Gallagher’s return in 2022 among them — and Hatfield House regularly hosts festivals, food fairs and large open-air events in its grounds. These bring genuine large-scale crowd-management demands rarely seen elsewhere in the Home Counties.
We cover the whole county, from the Watford and south-Hertfordshire commuter belt up to Stevenage, across St Albans and the cathedral city’s heritage events, and through the market towns of the Lea and Mimram valleys. Each event is sized and briefed to its specific site rather than a template, whether it is a 40-guest barn wedding or a multi-thousand-capacity show on a country estate.

Licensing & the local authority
Hertfordshire is a two-tier county: Hertfordshire County Council sits on top, but licensing and Temporary Event Notices (TENs) are handled by the district and borough councils — so the right authority depends on where your event is. Watford Borough Council, St Albans City & District Council and East Hertfordshire District Council each run their own licensing teams under the Licensing Act 2003.
A TEN for a one-off event is served on the relevant district or borough council at least 10 working days before the event, and both the council and Hertfordshire Constabulary can object. For a country-house concert or a grounds festival, premises licences and detailed conditions usually apply instead, and we provide the security elements to suit.
Larger Hertfordshire events are reviewed through a Safety Advisory Group (SAG), drawing in the district council, Hertfordshire Constabulary and other responders. We routinely supply the security components of SAG submissions — staffing plans, search and entry policies, and crowd management plans aligned to the Purple Guide for outdoor events.
Local crowd-risk context
The county’s signature challenge is scale on rural and semi-rural sites. Stately-home concerts and grounds festivals at venues like Knebworth and Hatfield put large crowds onto estate land with single-track approaches, field parking and long walking routes, so ingress, egress and traffic planning become the make-or-break elements of the security plan.
At the other end, Hertfordshire’s wedding and private-event market needs quiet, discreet cover, while its corporate and public venues increasingly plan around Martyn’s Law and ACT-style awareness. We brief teams for hostile-vehicle awareness, search regimes and the “run, hide, tell” principles where the event profile calls for it.

Event security in Hertfordshire — FAQs
Do you cover the whole of Hertfordshire?
Yes — we deploy SIA-licensed event security across Hertfordshire, from Watford and the south-county commuter belt up to Stevenage, St Albans and the eastern market towns, reaching the county quickly from our London base.
Can you handle large country-house concerts and grounds festivals?
Yes. Large outdoor events at venues like Knebworth House and Hatfield House are exactly where we scale up, providing search lines, perimeter and parking teams, internal crowd management and egress planning to one coordinated plan.
Which council handles licensing for my Hertfordshire event?
Hertfordshire is two-tier, so TENs and premises licensing are handled by the district or borough council where your event is — Watford Borough Council, St Albans City & District Council or East Hertfordshire District Council, for example — not Hertfordshire County Council. We can advise on TEN timing for one-off events.
How much does event security cost in Hertfordshire?
Hertfordshire event security typically runs at competitive Home Counties rates — roughly £20–£30 per officer per hour depending on role, risk and timing — with a four-hour minimum. Use our cost calculator for a quick estimate, then we’ll quote your event exactly.
